OCEANS RISE. CITIES FALL. HOPE SURVIVES.
Veteran astronaut Spurgeon Tanner (Robert Duvall) joins a mission into space to blow a comet off its course – life on Earth is in peril. In other movies of this genre we follow the survivors’ plight after the disaster has happened; this time everything leads up to the apocalypse in the ending (where an impressive tidal wave is the money shot). It’s a longish but OK soaper in need of more gripping characters. A cast mostly consisting of TV actors (guided by a TV director) tries its best, supported by Duvall and Morgan Freeman in grandfatherly parts.
