DON’T LET THE FANCY CLOTHES FOOL YOU.
Friendly small-town pizzeria owner Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler) inherits $40 billion and discovers that money attracts all kinds of dishonest people. This is a remake of Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) and Frank Capra must be spinning badly in his grave. The filmmakers try to salute the kind of goodness one apparently finds only in small towns, but only end up displaying their own lack of humor and moral values; the scene with the purse snatcher is vicious but far from funny.
