The Reagans

THE FILM THEY DIDN’T WANT YOU TO SEE!

The amazing story of how a Hollywood actor with modest career achievements became one of America’s most memorable presidents became a not-so-memorable miniseries that nevertheless enraged conservatives. Why? Because Ronald is portrayed as a kind but naïve man who lost touch with reality and Nancy as a power-hungry shrew who wielded her considerable influence based on the words of a fortune teller. It’s a conventional soap opera without much depth, but interesting to a certain degree, featuring good performances from James Brolin and Judy Davis.

2003-U.S. Made for TV. 180 min. Color. Directed by Robert Allan Ackerman. Cast: Judy Davis (Nancy Reagan), James Brolin (Ronald Reagan), Zeljko Ivanek (Mike Deaver), Mary Beth Peil, Bill Smitrovich, Shad Hart.

Trivia: The miniseries was meant to be broadcast on CBS, but right-wing activists forced a move to Showtime, a smaller cable network.
