WHAT DO YOU SEE?
John Klein (Richard Gere), a widower, ends up in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where people have made sightings of a mothman warning them of an impending catastrophe. Director Mark Pellington based his thriller on events that took place in Point Pleasant in the 1960s, although it would be best advised to just regard it as a movie and nothing more. The filmmakers cleverly create a disconcerting atmosphere and themes of grief and predestination are intriguingly interwoven. Good performances help and there’s a terrifying climax; hardly blindingly original stuff, but engaging.
