FORGET ABOUT WHO YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE, AND JUST ACCEPT WHO YOU ARE.
Hotshot publicist Ollie Trinke (Ben Affleck) loses his wife in childbirth and starts resenting his daughter for that; eventually, both he and the child grow up… Director Kevin Smith makes an earnest film in the vein of Chasing Amy (1997), but this one is much less interesting. A cute story, but sentimentality is balanced with humorous ingredients that are either dull or somewhat tasteless. The amount of clichés is not exactly helpful and Affleck is weak in the lead. There are bright moments, but far from enough of them.
2004-U.S. 102 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Kevin Smith. Cast: Ben Affleck (Ollie Trinke), Liv Tyler (Maya), Jennifer Lopez (Gertrude Steiney), George Carlin, Jason Biggs, Raquel Castro… Jason Lee, Matt Damon, Will Smith.
Trivia: Will Smith plays himself in the movie; Bruce Willis was allegedly first considered for the cameo.
