IT’S A WONDERFUL AFTERLIFE.
A grieving man (Mark Ruffalo) moves into a San Francisco apartment only to learn that it is haunted by the spirit of a doctor (Reese Witherspoon). A very thin and silly romantic comedy that looks like a bomb on paper, but Ghost (1990) worked, so why not? The film interweaves humor with a romance and serious themes such as loneliness, and it’s a surprisingly successful combo. Charming, cute and funny, the story overcomes its obvious obstacles and features likeable performances by the two stars (their constant spats are amusing), as well as Jon Heder as a very laidback expert on the paranormal.
2005-U.S. 95 min. Color. Directed by Mark Waters. Cast: Reese Witherspoon (Elizabeth Masterson), Mark Ruffalo (David Abbott), Donal Logue (Jack Houriskey), Ben Shenkman, Jon Heder, Dina Waters.
