No one can survive becoming a legend.
Director J.P. Schaefer’s debut is an unremarkable drama about the 1980 murder of John Lennon. We follow Mark Chapman (Jared Leto) as he arrives in New York, starts hanging out with the other fans outside Lennon’s building, fights the voices inside of him but finally succumbs to them and shoots the star on a dark December night. Leto gained a lot of weight for the part and is worth a look (although his mannered whispering becomes a little annoying), but we learn very little about what makes Chapman tick, really.
2008-U.S. 84 min. Color. Written and directed by J.P. Schaefer. Novel: Jack Jones (“Let Me Take You Down”). Cast: Jared Leto (Mark Chapman), Lindsay Lohan (Jude), Judah Friedlander (Paul), Ursula Abbott, Jeane Fournier.
Trivia: John Lennon is played by an actor called Mark Lindsay Chapman, eerily enough.
