Trail of the Pink Panther

THERE IS ONLY ONE INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU. HIS ADVENTURE CONTINUES…

On a trip to Lugash where the Pink Panther diamond once again has been stolen, Clouseau’s (Peter Sellers) plane disappears into the ocean. The seventh Pink Panther flick was made after Sellers’s death. It begins with several never-before seen clips with Clouseau; after his disappearance, a reporter (Joanna Lumley) interviews the old supporting characters and highlights from previous films are shown. It’s an incongruous, perhaps even tasteless, project with a second half that drags… but there are also funny moments.

1982-U.S.-Britain. 97 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Blake Edwards. Cast: Peter Sellers (Jacques Clouseau), David Niven (Sir Charles Litton), Herbert Lom (Charles Dreyfus), Joanna Lumley (Marie Jouvet), Richard Mulligan, Robert Wagner… Capucine, Robert Loggia, Harvey Korman.

Trivia: Since David Niven’s voice was weak due to illness, the actor was allegedly dubbed by celebrity impressionist Rich Little. Followed by Curse of the Pink Panther (1983).
