Pride is the curse.
In 6th century Denmark, the monster Grendel crashes a party at a castle and kills a lot of people; the king (Anthony Hopkins) hires a warrior called Beowulf (Ray Winstone) to destroy him. After The Polar Express (2004), director Robert Zemeckis made another film with performance capture technology; the results are a slight improvement. The animation still looks plastic at times, but the action sequences (Grendel’s attacks and the dragon fight) are exhilarating. The cast’s lively performances and the exciting story of the Medieval poem on which the script is based also help.
