Pride and Glory

TRUTH. HONOR. LOYALTY. FAMILY. WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE?

prideandgloryWhen four NYC cops are killed, Deputy Chief Francis Tierney (Jon Voight) talks his son Raymond (Edward Norton) into joining the task force set up to investigate the murders. An ambitious thriller that bites off a little more than it can chew. The portrayal of a family where most members are cops suffers from predictability (you think the brothers are gonna clash?) and some themes are merely introduced and then dropped because there’s no time to delve deeper. Still, the last half-hour turns into an explosive way to end things. Vibrantly directed by Gavin O’Connor; good performances by the cast.

2008-U.S. 129 min. Color. Directed by Gavin O’Connor. Screenplay: Joe Carnahan, Gavin O’Connor. Cast: Edward Norton (Raymond Tierney), Colin Farrell (Jimmy Egan), Jon Voight (Francis Tierney, Sr.), Noah Emmerich (Francis Tierney, Jr.), Jennifer Ehle, John Ortiz.
