Batman

MEN DIE! WOMEN SIGH! BENEATH THAT BATCAPE – HE’S ALL MAN!

Four supervillains (Burgess Meredith, Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, Lee Meriwether) join forces to pose a deadly threat against both Gotham City and Batman (Adam West). The Batman TV show (1966-1968) had barely taken off when this feature film was rushed into production. Kids who like the show may take to it, but watching Romero and Meredith try to out-crazy one another becomes tiresome. Funniest scene: Batman fighting a rubber shark with an “anti-shark” spray.

1966-U.S. 105 min. Color. Directed by Leslie Martinson. Comic Book: Bob Kane. Music: Nelson Riddle. Cast: Adam West (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Burt Ward (Dick Grayson/Robin), Burgess Meredith (The Penguin), Cesar Romero (The Joker), Frank Gorshin, Lee Meriwether.

Quote: “Gosh, drink is sure a filthy thing, isn’t it? I’d rather be dead than unable to trust my own eyes!” (Ward to West, trying to teach the kids not to drink…)
