Deception

WHEN YOU’RE IN THIS WORLD, NO ONE IS WHO THEY SEEM, AND EVERYONE IS PLAYING THE GAME.

Wide-eyed accountant Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) strikes up a friendship with a charismatic attorney (Hugh Jackman) who introduces him to an exclusive sex club. Note to the filmmakers: It’s one thing to establish a premise where a naive young man walks into a trap, but it’s quite another to expect the audience to be equally clueless. The cast is fine, but this thriller is painfully obvious from the moment Jackman sets his eyes on McGregor, and the ending has no credibility.

2008-U.S. 108 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Marcel Langenegger. Cast: Hugh Jackman (Wyatt Bose), Ewan McGregor (Jonathan McQuarry), Michelle Williams (S), Lisa Gay Hamilton, Maggie Q, Natasha Henstridge… Charlotte Rampling.
