A THREE RING CIRCUS OF AFRICAN THRILLS AND LAUGHS!
Bookseller Buzz Johnson (Bud Abbott) convinces Diana Emerson (Hillary Brooke) that his colleague (Lou Costello) can reproduce a rare map revealing the location of a diamond stash in the African jungle – and they’re all off for the dark continent. One of the duo’s most popular films has a former prize-fighter (Max Baer), two big-game hunters (Clyde Beatty, Frank Buck) and one of the Stooges (Shemp Howard). It’s a motley crew that helps our heroes deliver the laughs. Costello is in great shape and he’s more than ably assisted by Joe Besser who’s involved in some of the best scenes. However, all the jungle chases tend to get too repetitious.
1949-U.S. 79 min. B/W. Directed by Charles Barton. Cast: Bud Abbott (Buzz Johnson), Lou Costello (Stanley Livington), Hillary Brooke (Diana Emerson), Max Baer, Clyde Beatty, Frank Buck… Shemp Howard.
