It was announced yesterday that ABC will move Jimmy Kimmel Live into the same time slot as The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman. This is excellent news. Coming on the heels of reports of Jay Leno taking a $5 million pay cut and 20 staffers being forced to leave The Tonight Show, the late-night line-up is getting tougher. In all honesty, both Leno and Letterman need the competition. Conan O’Brien is doing his best to compete with them on cable, but they need additional competition from a network. Kimmel could offer viewers a sharper point-of-view that is sometimes lacking from the two veterans. As he showed last spring at the White House Correspondents Dinner, he’s a comedy force to reckon with.
The clip above shows one of the summer’s “This Week in Unnecessary Censorship”, one of Kimmel’s defining inventions.
