Quarantine

Contain the truth.

TV reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman are following a team of firefighters on their night shift, but an emergency call turns into a frightening crisis in an apartment complex. This Hollywood remake of a Spanish horror movie, [•Rec] (2007), was put together quickly and reveals no independent thinking on the part of the filmmakers. The opening scenes feel more contrived than cozy and we never really build much sympathy for those who end up isolated in that house of horrors. Blame the shaky cam and poor lighting.

2008-U.S. 89 min. Color. Directed by John Erick Dowdle. Cast: Jennifer Carpenter (Angela Vidal), Jay Hernandez (Jake), Johnathon Schaech (George Fletcher), Columbus Short, Greg Germann, Steve Harris.

Trivia: Followed by a direct-to-DVD sequel, Quarantine 2: Terminal (2011).
