The second spin-off to CSI (2000-2015) was a lot less colorful than CSI: Miami (2002-2012), but then its lead character was introduced as a man who had lost his wife in 9/11 and now spent his days solving crime in a New York City that bathed in a hue of dark blue light. Gary Sinise may have looked a bit wooden, but Mac Taylor was a straight-up man that audiences trusted and he was surrounded by a likable cast, two of whom would end up marrying each other after a few years. Mac’s closest partner, played by Melina Kanakaredes, was eventually replaced by Sela Ward; both women were solid, but might just as well have played the same character. Not much was remarkable about this procedural, but the last season did have an episode almost without any dialogue.
