Safety Last!

safetylast, jpgHarold Lloyd finds a job in the city as a salesclerk at a department store, but he exaggerates his luck in letters to his girlfriend (Mildred Davis) – who soon comes to visit. One of the star’s most famous comedies is one of the last he made with his co-star Davis before marrying her. The story is very simple, but has many funny slapstick scenes (with well-staged gags) that eventually lead to the sequence that has gone down in history, where Lloyd is climbing a building and constantly faces challenges that could cause him to fall down. Ingeniously made, with clock and all, and looks really dangerous. Directed with a lot of playfulness, as in the cheeky opening scene.
