A Walk Among the Tombstones

PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF ALL THE WRONG THINGS.

walkamongtombstonesPrivate eye Matthew Scudder (Liam Neeson) is hired to look into who might have kidnapped and murdered the wife of a drug dealer; he discovers a pattern. Lawrence Block’s character first appeared onscreen in 8 Million Ways to Die (1986), but this is a more serious attempt, an grim tale of two psychopathic murderers being hunted by a sober alcoholic who quit the force after a horrible mistake. Neeson is an excellent choice to play Scudder, tormented but likable; his budding mentor relationship with young Brian Bradley gives this otherwise hardboiled crime thriller a bit of charm. Contrived near the end, but a good yarn.
