This incredibly hyped adaptation of an erotic novel where a virgin (Dakota Johnson) falls for a 27-year-old Seattle business tycoon (Jamie Dornan) who has a thing for BDSM cast two very attractive actors in the leads and the film is not dull for at least an hour. The problem is that the novel lured readers with very explicit sex scenes and we get very little of that here – there’s no pushing the envelope in that regard, no attempt to make us want to yell out a safe word. What do the filmmakers expect, that we care about the clichéd relationship between Ana and Christian?
