BRAVE THE DEEP. FIND THE GOLD. TRUST NO ONE.
Veteran submarine captain Robinson (Jude Law) and a crew that is half British, half Russian are hired to salvage gold worth millions of dollars from a WWII-era German submarine that’s spent the last 70 years at the bottom of the Black Sea. A thriller that boasts decent performances, including Law as the bitter Scotsman in charge of a motley submarine crew that don’t spend many minutes onboard before causing trouble. It’s a pretty good story at the heart of it, if you can believe some of its contrivances, and find a reason to root for these characters; the director expertly uses genre clichés to build tension.
2014-Britain. 114 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Kevin Macdonald. Cast: Jude Law (Robinson), Scoot McNairy (Daniels), Ben Mendelsohn (Fraser), David Threlfall, Bobby Schofield, Karl Davies.
