The Meg

IF YOU SEE HER COMING… IT’S ALL YOU’LL HAVE TIME TO SAY.

After losing two friends during a deep-water rescue mission, Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) reluctantly agrees to assist when a new crisis hits… but he has no idea what kind of monster he’s about to face. Statham has fought many bad guys, but pitting him against a megalodon, a gigantic shark long thought dead, is a new idea. This 3D movie doesn’t take itself too seriously, but avoids entering Sharknado territory; it’s more Deep Blue Sea than Jaws. You do get pretty much what you came for, but it’s overlong and its thrills on the mediocre side.

2018-U.S.-China. 113 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jon Turteltaub. Novel: Steve Alten (”Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror”). Cast: Jason Statham (Jonas Taylor), Li Bingbing (Suyin Zhang), Rainn Wilson (Jack Morris), Ruby Rose, Cliff Curtis, Winston Chao.
